Very Interesting topic. My Grandpa Joseph Edwin Geertsen was a devout believer (An understatement) and very close friend of Bishop John Hyrum Koyle. My grandpa had his own dream that convinced him of the truth of Bishop Koyle’s “divine” mission. In fact he took over the Golden Ensign silver mine in Nevada near Mountain City after Bishop Koyle died. The Golden Ensign mine is connected to the Dream Mine and was supposed to help bring in the Dream Mine. I have been out to the Golden Ensign mine in the past working on assessment work. My dad worked at the Dream Mine when he was young and he was alos a lifelong supporter. Even though my faith has now transitioned away from Mormonism I was raised hearing many Dream Mine stories and believed it for many years as I was growing up. Ogden Kraut (A very close friend of my father and grandfather) wrote a book called “The Relief Mine” detailing the story of the Dream mine. I do disagree with RFM on the point that Heber J Grant didn’t authorize Koyle to restart it. Heber was all about finance and business. I heard many stories from my grandfather that Heber J. Grant was concerned about the money. It wasn’t about Heber supporting Koyle’s mission. Thanks for discussing another interesting tidbit in the twisted world of Mormon Folkflore.
